A deep hardening steel with excellent toughness, outstanding wear resistance and good machining properties.

Applications

Tools and dies for blanking, punching, piercing, bending, planning, forming, embossing, tube and rod drawing, deep drawing, thread drawing, shear blades, trimming tools, gauges, grooved rolls, heavily stressed woodworking tools.

Machinability

Has a machinability rating of 50% of AISI B-1112.

Hardening

Air quenched -  Heat treat to Rc 55 - 66

Weldability

Due to the high risk of crack formation welding of A2 tool steel should be avoided, if possible.

If necessary preheat to 300-500 deg C - immediate stress relieve after weld

Values shown should be used as a guide - check with manufacturers data sheet.

Tempering   -   Based on 1" Dia specimen quenched at 1775 Deg F
Double tempering is mandatory
